"You Can Be Playing It Perfectly, But Not Be Playing It Well" - Paul Simon

I was barely awake when I turned on "Sunday Morning" on CBS - just in time to hear these wise words said by Paul Simon. What? I quickly pressed rewind, to hear it again. He placed his hand on his heart and said, "You can be playing it perfectly, but not be playing it well."

I thought of all my clients who struggle with the need for perfection. Simon was so clear - it's about playing with heart. It's about playing with soul. A musician could follow the notes perfectly, but without heart and soul, those notes are just symbols on a sheet of music. Infuse your own sparkling energy, dig deep into your emotional well, and play from there. That's the place you play "well" from. That's the place from which you connect and touch others.

So, I want to challenge you to think about this - whether you're a musician, an actor, an artist, or in any profession: Where in your life is focusing on perfection keeping you stuck? What’s one step you could take today to focus on creating or performing from your heart and soul, and free yourself from the illusion of perfect?

I trust you will play it well. Xo
